What awaits next?

As the world moves on after Tamilchelvan anna's death, what does await Tamils? What sort of an impact would his death have on the LTTE as a whole, and the struggle?

Personally, there is no room for peace talks anymore. As the LTTE was already suffering from the death of Anton Balasingham last December, the assassination of Tamilchelvan anna made it worse. The LTTE has enough military commanders even after the likes of Karuna split, and Tamilchelvan anna the commander, assassinated. However, it doesn't have any body capable of "negotiating" peace amongst it's ranks.

Any one person from the LTTE can attend peace talks, smile for cameras, and shake hands. But only a certain few people have what it takes to "negotiate" peace. For Anton Balasingham, it came naturally. Tamilchelvan anna, as Anton Balasingham's prodigy, had enough of it passed on to him. As neither the LTTE nor the Tamil diaspora expected anything to befall Tamilchelvan anna, there is literally nobody in the LTTE who can fully handle the role of the chief peace "negotiator."

There are numerous people within the LTTE ranks who can work towards filling Tamilchelvan anna's shoes in the next few years. To point out some examples there is Pulidevan anna, the head of the LTTE peace secretariat. He has a good rapport with various members of the International community, including SLMM. Similar to Tamilchelvan anna, he is also a good natured person, who is 'always smiling.' Then there is Rasiah Ilanthirayan, as the LTTE's military spokesperson, he is a well known face to the world, and he is also capable of building a good relationship with the international community. There are numerous others as well.

Anyhow, for the time being, the appointment of P. Nadesan, who accompanied Tamilchelvan anna on peace missions is the most ideal thing to do. He has the experience, the age, and the position to command respect from the others and get things done. His appointment will also eliminate any dissatisfaction, and will give the LTTE plenty of time to get somebody molded to fit the position.
