Hypocrisy at work..

Recently, America donated some radars and marine equipment to Sri Lanka. This is the press release issued by the American Embassy in Sri Lanka: U.S. Government Enhances Sri Lanka’s Maritime Security Capability

First Ambassador Robert Blake says: "In his remarks at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Blake expressed the U.S. Government’s hope that the radar system and the inflatable boats would help the Sri Lankan Navy to interdict arms shipments to the LTTE, which was designated a foreign terrorist organization the United States in 1997."

Then in the very next sentence he says: "The Ambassador also urged the Government of Sri Lanka to pursue a negotiated settlement to Sri Lanka’s conflict and stressed the importance of respecting fully human rights."

Am I the only person here who sees both comments to be contradictory, and full of hypocrisy? How is the Sri Lankan Government going to "pursue a negotiated settlement" while America is providing military equipment? The message is clear though, the fact that this handover occurred within a week of S.P. Tamilchelvan's assassination speaks volumes about where the US really stands in regards to the Sri Lankan War.
